So the one thing I haven't mentioned is the fact that, not only am I trying to improve the eating and health habits of myself, I am also wanting to implement these into my home, for my family. In the big picture, I haven't done too bad over the course of my kids' life. I have always served vegetables with dinner, we only eat whole wheat pasta and brown rice and have for years now. We haven't had anything "white" (bread/pasta/rice) in this house for a while now, that is nothing new. I have also always insisted the kids drink milk with dinner, no sodas. Typical dinners in our house consist of spaghetti, meatloaf, chicken alfredo, beef shepards pie, potato soup, etc.....so our meals aren't super unhealthy but could use some refining. For example, last year I began using ground turkey instead of ground beef in our meatloaf. It's delicious and I actually think it tastes better than beef. The one thing I want to focus on is eating less red meat. I have been trying to make more meals with chicken or fish or just vegetarian, rather than eating so much red meat. I have recently found some fantastic fish taco recipes I have been making and fish is now a staple in our house. Plus with Bountiful baskets, we have way more veggies and fruit than we ever had before.
But from now on I am going to let you know our menu for the week on "What are you eating this week" Wednesday!!! Even if we go to McDonalds for dinner, I will blog about it, just to help track what we are eating. For example, tonight we are eating at our church-it's a Lent service and my family will be eating soup and bread at church. Last night my husband made deer steaks and potatoes while I was at work. On Monday I made beef shepards pie and served it with salad with avocados and tomatoes. I have to be honest, I don't know what we will have the rest of the week, but I will post when I do and if I find a fantastic recipe, I will share it:) Cheers!!
